How to play
NFS Most Wanted (2005) runs natively on PC thanks to the open-source SpeedBreaker project (a static recompilation of the Xbox 360 version, not an emulator) and its Windows port. The NOBK Online build is a fork of it: the same game, plus online races, ranked play, leaderboards and NOBK.Friends through our server.
What you need
data folderNew install
Download and extract
Download the NOBK Online package above and extract it into its own folder, for example C:\Games\NFSMW-NOBK (not inside Program Files). Inside: NFSMW Launcher.exe and SpeedBreaker.exe.
Sign in to NOBK Online
Open NFSMW Launcher.exe, go to the Online tab and sign in with your NOBK Online username and password. The launcher remembers you; signed out, the game starts offline.
Add your game
Press PLAY. On the first start the game asks for your own USA Xbox 360 disc image (.iso, trimmed XISO) or extracted folder, checks that it is the right game and version, and copies and verifies its 49 files into the data folder. After that you can delete the disc image.
PAL and Japanese discs, re-releases, Games on Demand and the PC versions (Black Edition too) are not supported.
Only use a copy of a game you own. We never distribute game files, ISOs or download links, and we can't help you find them.
Onto the streets
In the main menu pick Xbox LIVE: host a room or join one. Ranked Match counts for the leaderboards: everyone gets a random car and look, so only driving decides. Every race shows up on the Live page and in your profile.
Already playing SpeedBreaker?
Keep it: the NOBK package is a separate folder with its own install in data (portable), so it doesn't touch your SpeedBreaker settings or saves. Keep your disc image for the first start of the NOBK package. Xbox 360 saves can't be imported.
Controls
An Xbox controller is recommended (the first one connected is used). The keyboard works too: these are the default keys, and you can change them in the launcher's Controls tab.
FAQ
How does the rating work?
Everyone starts at 500. A ranked race changes the rating of its mode (Circuit, Sprint or Drag) and your Overall rating, by Elo against every other driver in it: beating stronger drivers gives more. Wins in a row add a small streak bonus. A race whose result the players' games report differently is not rated.
Do I need to open ports or use a VPN?
No. The game connects out to our relay, so it works behind any home router.
Can I still play offline?
Yes. Career, Challenge Series and Quick Race work as in SpeedBreaker. Signed out in the launcher, the game starts fully offline.
Can I start it from Steam?
Yes: in the launcher, Files tab, Add to Steam. It adds the game to your library with its cover, banner, logo and icon. Hold Shift while starting from Steam to open the launcher.
Steam Deck / Linux?
The NOBK package is Windows only for now. SpeedBreaker itself has a SteamOS build, but without online play.
The game runs too fast / slow, or stutters
The game runs at 60 fps, its own cap. Use a display at about 60 Hz (or turn on V-Sync in the launcher) and close overlays you don't need.
Something doesn't work
In the launcher, Files tab, write what happened and press Send log; or open a thread in the forums.
Is it free? Who made it?
Free; you only need your own copy of the game. The PC port is SpeedBreaker by project(u) and contributors and its Windows port (GPL-3.0-or-later); NOBK Online adds the online part and runs the server, in Germany, at its own cost. Source of the NOBK build: download.
